Anne Hathaway's property portfolio – from a California chalet to an Upper West Side penthouse, these are the actress's most notable homes
The Devil Wears Prada actress has a rich property history spanning both the East and West coasts – including a Brooklyn apartment used as her closet

Think of Anne Hathaway, and you're likely to associate her with her place of work, Hollywood. When it comes to her houses, however, the Les Misérables star has a tendency to reside beyond Tinseltown.
Anne's most famous home, which also happens to be her current residence, is a Swiss chalet-style hideaway in Southern California, once owned by Yves Saint Laurent and Wes Anderson, no less. The property, designed by Studio Shamshiri, is a trove of California casual style. It is already a favorite here at Homes & Gardens, where we regularly comment on its intelligent use of vintage furnishings and soothing color palettes.
However, the actress has also lived in homes on the East Coast, specifically a colonial-style farmhouse in Connecticut and a Dumbo apartment that she reportedly used to store clothes. Here, we explore her most notable homes.

This may just be the ultimate midcentury accent chair. Designed by James Patterson, it's upholstered in buttery saddle leather that will age and soften beautifully over time. It's uniquely made to be both structured and comfy all at once.
This accessory seamlessly blends into any interior style thanks to its adaptable exterior. You can display the linen side for a minimalist, everyday look – or the velvet front for an opulent appeal.
Upholstered in velvet with a long, playful cotton fringe, the Astrid Fringe Stool calls back to mid-century design with a modern approach. It's as practical as it is eye-catching.
Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman's primary residence is a 1906 country house designed by architect Myron Hunt to resemble a Swiss chalet. The interiors, created by the esteemed Studio Shamshiri, take 'cues from the romance and idiosyncrasy of [the] architecture' while still paying homage to its Southern Californian zip code.
The studio worked with Anne to 'preserve the integrity and charm' of the original structure while bringing it to the modern day through layers of color, texture, and unique furniture.

Wood paneling all over the property, originally designed as a hunting lodge, made the interiors feel dark, so the house was swept with a softer touch of pastel and earthy hues.
'Conversations with our clients about the mood they wanted to create brought up names like Yves Saint Laurent, Wes Anderson [who previously lived in the home], David Bowie, and Rihanna. We all imagined a house filled with music and beauty,' the studio shared.

Until 2020, Anne and Adam owned a two-bedroom Upper West Side apartment – located in a historic Neo-Georgian mansion on the fringe of Central Park. Alongside Gramercy Design (a design firm famed for collaborating with high-profile clients in the entertainment business), the actress renovated her penthouse before listing the property for $3.495 million.

Anne has a habit of upgrading historic homes in a way that preserve its original details, with a modern, quiet luxury twist, as seen in her California chalet. This penthouse was no different.
In the apartment, authentic details and period moldings merge seamlessly with contemporary updates, ranging from durable white oak flooring to a state-of-the art kitchen exhibiting an 18-foot ceiling.

Between 2017 and 2018, Anne and Adam owned a 4,561-square-foot oceanside farmhouse in Connecticut.
The $2.7 million home, named CompoBello, epitomizes New England coastal style, complete with white shingles on its façade, oak flooring, and a chunky stone fireplace contrasting its soft neutral color scheme. Located in Westport, the house sits on the Gold Coast along the Long Island Sound, conveniently only 48 miles northeast of New York City.

Anne Hathaway owned a unit in the Clock Tower Condominium, located next to Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo, New York. However, reports say she did not reside in the apartment. Instead, she used the ninth-floor unit as a 'crash pad for her clothes' while staying with Adam Shulman, who had another unit in the same building.
The actress purchased the three-bedroom home for $4.1 million in 2012 yet listed the apartment for $4.5 million only one year later.
Where is Anne Hathaway's house?
Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman currently reside in a 1906 Swiss-style chalet in Southern California. The actress's interior designer, Pamela Shamshiri, shared that the home's rooms are 'designed for communal interaction,' from the sociable kitchen island to the breakfast nook that 'echoes the glorious mountain views.' It's a European design lover's dream in the Golden State. She's previously owned properties in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Westport, Connecticut.
