Amanda Seyfried's Scandinavian-style bedroom is a masterclass in neutrals – designers say its colors promote a good night's sleep
The minimalist bedroom is simple yet harmonious – tapping into a timeless combination that unlocks peace and serenity, according to experts
A bedroom is, by definition, a sleep sanctuary; as such, styling and decor is imperative to our rest. We are partial to neutral hues and soft materials, and so are many others.
One example happens to be Amanda Seyfried. The Mamma Mia and Mean Girls star's home was designed by Brooklyn-based design firm General Assembly, and they opted for a restful white-and-wood palette that we can't get enough of.
In an image shared to Instagram by Seyfried, we can see large, white bay windows letting in plenty of natural light, while a wood nook is the perfect spot to curl up and read. Its minimal, Scandinavian style is certainly trend-forward, but it turns out that these colors and materials are conducive to a good night's sleep, too.

Bespoke Nightstand
This beautifully crafted oak nightstand features a natural finish and open storage space. We love how its rattan front brings a sophisticated, retro twist to a Scandinavian-style classic. It's (almost) too good-looking to be functional.
Dreamy Duvet
This sophisticated and long-lasting bedding is made of 100% pure cotton. The pared-back neutral hues are surely Seyfried-approved and, as designers explain, could help promote a better night's sleep.
Velvet Throw
This lush, velvet pillow comes with an ultra-soft, feathery insert. Its unique texture means we can enjoy the serene color palette with added interest – perfect for any neutral bedroom or living room.
According to experts, the timeless combination of white and wood is such a popular white bedroom idea due to its versatility, yes, but also its ability to relax anyone who enters the space.
'The combination of white and wood in a bedroom design is more than just a Scandi-style hallmark—it’s a recipe for creating a serene, sleep-friendly sanctuary,' designer Nina Lichtenstein says. 'Rooted in minimalism and natural beauty, this pairing has become a popular choice for those seeking a space that fosters relaxation, comfort, and timeless appeal.'
She continues, 'The color white is often associated with cleanliness, simplicity, and calmness. In a bedroom, white walls or textiles create a sense of openness and lightness that helps reduce visual clutter, a key factor in calming the mind before sleep. When paired with natural wood tones, the result is a grounded, harmonious balance. Wood adds warmth and texture, softening the starkness of white and introducing an organic element that mirrors the calming effects of nature. Studies suggest that exposure to natural materials like wood can lower heart rates and reduce stress, making it an ideal addition to a sleep space. Together, white and wood foster an environment that feels both soothing and welcoming—a combination that encourages a restful night’s sleep.'
While the Scandi style fluctuates in popularity, the beauty of implementing it into a space like a bedroom is that it is highly easy to customize.

'This combination owes its enduring popularity to its versatility and timelessness,' Lichtenstein explains. 'White serves as a blank backdrop, making it easy to update a bedroom’s decor with seasonal accents or personal touches. Meanwhile, wood adds depth and character, ensuring the space feels neither sterile nor overly modern. The Scandi aesthetic, which emphasizes functionality and coziness, has further cemented this trend. White and wood bedrooms are particularly appealing in urban settings, where they can counteract the hustle and bustle with a sense of calm. Additionally, this palette works well with various styles, from rustic to contemporary, allowing homeowners to tailor the look to their preferences.'
To maintain visual interest, we recommend incorporating a variety of textures, such as a linen duvet, silk pillowcase, or rattan nightstand, much like the ones available above. Happy shopping – the Seyfried way.
