Designing a bathroom is often one of the most difficult out of all the rooms in the home. There are so many practical (and often boring) elements to consider, but there are just as many fun, aesthetic ones, too.

And few features transform a scheme like bathroom tiles. With so many colors, textures, and layouts to experiment with, it's an underrated room to design. And as 2025's bathroom trends are proving some of the most exciting of the last few years, there's never been a better time to experiment with tile.

So, what are the biggest bathroom tile trends for 2025? We've asked interior designers and bathroom design experts for their predictions – and there are some truly inspiring trends emerging this year.

Nothing adds texture and interest to a bathroom like tiles. And they are coming into play more than ever this year. 'Bathrooms are becoming more than just functional spaces – they’re an opportunity to create something truly beautiful,' says interior designer Lauren Gilberthorpe.

From tile patterns and layouts to the tile colors proving the most popular, these are the tile trends to look out for if you want to elevate your bathroom ideas in 2025 and beyond.

1. Bespoke accent tiles

Many design trends this year are embracing more bespoke design – and the bathroom is no exception. The only difference is the need for these unique details to be as functional as they are stylish. Which is where tiles come into play.

'I think homeowners will continue to be drawn to simple, easy-to-clean wall tile for shower areas, but will incorporate more bespoke tile as bathroom accents,' says Tatiana Amundsen, of Four Brothers Design + Build in Washington, DC.

'For example, in this project, we found a happy medium: a standard white ceramic tile paired with a handmade clay tile, installed without grout on a drywall in the bathroom.'

2. Warm, textural bathroom floor tiles

This year's bathroom tile trends are working in harmony with other design features within the bathroom to create a seamless design. And there's a shift in the chosen flooring designs to complement the latest bathroom color trends.

'As warm beige, brown, and mocha tones melted our hearts and meandered into our homes in 2024, it was only a matter of time before these delicious hues made their way to our bathrooms,' says interior designer Bethany Adams.

'To complement such delightfully chocolate-toned spaces, the tile we're selecting is leaning away from cool white and blue marble tones and more towards warm, textured limestone and travertine,' she points out.

3. Tile designs that feel personal

There's been a shift across every room towards more personalized interiors. From the new trend of tile mural kitchen backsplashes to the desire to decorate with pieces we love rather than pieces that are considered in style, it's a trend that's making its way into bathrooms tiles in 2025.

'When choosing tiles, focus instead on personal style and something you love rather than trends, whether it be a bold pattern or a simple glazed tile,' suggests Lee Thornley, founder of Bert & May.

'We love simple patterns which can be uniquely tessellated to create something bespoke that you won’t tire of, or a timeless checkerboard pattern using a combination of plain tiles in favorite colors that never goes out of style.'

4. Bathroom tiles in earthy colors

This year's bathroom tile trends are embracing a more pared-back color palette. It's out with the bright and bold and in with the more muted, natural, earthy tones that add a more timeless, tranquil style.

'We are seeing evocative, earthy colors dominating interiors, injecting a calming energy, and personality. Whether it be your choice of tile or paint, exciting combinations are redefining spaces,' says James Sirett, director of product and sourcing at Fired Earth.

This shift comes at a time when we are looking to introduce a more serene, mindful feel to our bathrooms. 'I think we are also going to see a movement toward warm, earthy tones and textures that elicit feelings of stability and tranquility. It is amazing how much a little variation within a wall of tile can bring life to the whole room,' agrees Tatiana.

5. Checkerboard bathroom tile designs

There is still a desire for pattern and interest in bathroom designs – and tiles are the perfect feature to do it. In 2025, we're seeing classic patterns at the forefront of tile layouts.

'One standout trend is checkerboard tiling. It’s fun, impactful, and works particularly well in smaller rooms where it can create a sense of drama without overwhelming the space,' says Lauren.

In this bathroom, a checkerboard design has been created using brown and cream square tiles throughout the shower nook, on the bath, and halfway up the walls. Paired with a cream paint on the rest of the walls, it strikes the perfect balance.

6. Enclosed tiled shower rooms

'Another trend gaining momentum is enclosed shower rooms – the ultimate in bathroom luxury. Generous in scale, these spaces feel elevated and indulgent, reminiscent of the finest hotel suites,' says Lauren.

The beauty of an enclosed shower room is the ability to be more daring with your design. Tiles covering every wall – perhaps in a darker color you might not consider in the main bathroom – can create a striking nook.

'They provide the perfect backdrop for showcasing beautiful tiles and striking bathroom hardware, bringing a sense of sanctuary to the everyday. Enclosed showers benefit from well-chosen materials and generous proportions to create a sense of flow,' Lauren adds.

7. Playful nostalgia and '70s-inspired tiles

Over the last couple of years, we've seen a number of outdated trends making a comeback, from the revival of colorful bathroom suites to wood bathrooms coming back into fashion.

'Playful nostalgia and retro colors represent an interesting evolution in interior design and consumers are embracing them with a fresh perspective, often combining more classic hues with modern design to allow them to express their personality,' says Isabel Fernandez, of Quorn Stone.

In 2025, expect to see nostalgic, '70s-inspired trends making their way into the bathroom through tiles – the favored way to bring this style revival into your scheme in a tasteful way.

'The revival of the 70’s bathroom coincides with a broader trend in interior design, where rich burgundy, warm browns, and earthy tones are making a stylish comeback. They offer an opportunity for creativity and playfulness in bathroom schemes through the color and style. Think square terrazzo flooring, decorative mosaics, burgundy chequerboard tiles, and red or orange decorative wall tiling.'

This year's bathroom tile trends are really about embracing designs that feel personal and enduring. They all exude a style that transcends design styles, creating a bathroom scheme that feels personalized and tailor-made while retaining a sense of tranquility. So, whether you want to design a small bathroom with a sense of serenity or give your shower tiles a bold upgrade, these trends are the perfect starting point.
