Long gone are the days of clinical bathrooms that stuck to a color palette of harsh whites. In 2025, color is central to bathroom remodels – transforming these functional rooms into spaces that inspire joy and reflect personality.

From the most colorful bathroom ideas to neutral bathrooms, the right color choice can give these rooms a welcoming feel, something we all want more of in 2025.

To help you choose the right color scheme for your bathroom, we enlisted the help of interior designers who share below their favorite bathroom color trends for the year ahead. From soft neutrals to bold hues, there's something here for all decorating styles.

There are so many bathroom color ideas to choose from, so before redecorating your bathroom, think about the colors you love and the atmosphere you're trying to create. Do you want a soothing sanctuary or a maximalist bathroom haven? Whatever you choose, make sure it reflects your personal interior design style and complements the finishes used in your bathroom.

1. Rich and moody hues

'Dark and moody bathrooms are definitely having a moment for 2025, and I’m loving the rich, dramatic vibe they bring to a space. Black, deep purple, and plum tones are especially striking – they’re bold, elegant, and just a little unexpected,' explains San Francisco-based designer Tineke Triggs.

'These shades create such a cozy, luxurious feel, almost like a spa retreat right at home. They pair beautifully with black fixtures, warm brass accents, or even textured materials like stone or wood. Whether you go all in with walls or cabinetry or just use them as an accent in tiles or decor, these colors add so much depth and personality. It’s a trend that feels fresh but also timeless – perfect for anyone looking to make a statement,' says Tineke.

2. Natural wood tones

A return to natural materials is a stylish choice in every room, including the bathroom. Letting the warmth of natural wood inform the room's color scheme creates a timeless feel, making it a failsafe option for the year ahead.

'Working with various wood species, walnut or rift-cut white oaks, brings so much warmth and character to smaller spaces like bathrooms,' says Grayson Knight of Layered Dimensions Interior Design. 'Organic and natural materials innately create a warm, soothing, and relaxing environment which makes them perfect for spaces such as bathrooms. Playing with different stain blends can help to create a unique and custom touch to the space that will help make it uniquely your own.'

3. Warm white

If you're considering keeping things classic with white bathrooms in 2025, opt for warm white paints that help the space feel cozy and welcoming.

'For 2025, I’m loving off-white for bathrooms because it adds a soft, warm vibe that feels so inviting. It has this calming, airy feel that makes the space feel bigger and brighter, which is perfect if you don’t have a lot of room,' explains interior designer Soledad Alzaga.

'White and cream colors are always a classic go-to, giving the bathroom that clean, fresh look that pairs well with any style. I think both colors look great with touches of wood or metal accents, giving the space a modern and cozy feel. I paint the walls, ceilings, and trim the same color and finish for a monochromatic look that eliminates harsh contrasts, making the space feel larger and more open,' adds Soledad.

4. Cobalt blue

When it comes to decorating with blue in bathrooms this year, it's all about rich, deep shades that feel both opulent and natural-world-inspired.

'Cobalt blue is a stunning color for bathrooms in 2025, offering a blend of vibrancy and tranquility. Its rich, deep tone brings a sense of luxury without overwhelming the space, making it perfect for a relaxing environment. The color pairs beautifully with shades such as crisp whites, soft grays, and metallics like gold or silver, adding depth and interest,' advises interior designer Swati Goorha.

'Cobalt blue also evokes natural elements reminiscent of the ocean or sky, which aligns with the calming atmosphere of a bathroom. Its timeless appeal ensures it remains relevant beyond fleeting trends, providing lasting elegance,' Swati adds.

5. Earthy terracotta

Pink bathrooms favor earthy and grounding terracotta decor in 2025, much like this bathroom painted with Dunn-Edwards' 2025 Color of the Year, Caramelized.

'For 2025, a warm terracotta is an excellent choice for bathroom spaces,' says Jonah Kilday of MK Workshop. 'This earthy hue brings a cozy and inviting atmosphere, reflecting a growing trend towards nature-inspired designs. Terracotta pairs beautifully with natural materials like wood and stone, creating a harmonious and grounded aesthetic that promotes relaxation.'

6. Gold

If you're looking to create a luxe feeling in your bathroom this year, why not consider decorating with gold, as shown here in this timeless bathroom?

'Gold is an elegant way to make a bold statement,' explains interior designer Nadia Watts. 'Gold and other metallic surfaces reflect light, allowing light to bounce around your space. Gold feels regal and sophisticated, making your room feel elevated. Using it on the fixtures, the mirror, and the wall coverings make this bathroom feel as though it’s enveloping you in luxury.'

7. Purple

Decorating with purple has been a standout hue amongst this year's Color of the Year announcements, so it's no surprise to see it favored in bathrooms. Here, Nadia Watts opted for lilac to inform the room's color scheme, serving as a fresh and feminine color choice.

'Purple is both sophisticated and playful,' shares Nadia. 'Bathrooms are a great place to experiment with color, they usually have a relatively small footprint which allows for color drenching and pops of exciting color. Purple goes with everything, it works well with both a warm or cool color palette and makes neutrals pop.'

8. Joyful yellow

Often the last room you use before heading to bed and the first when you get up in the morning, it's important your bathroom feels uplifting and puts you in a good mood for the day ahead.

'I’ve always been a fan of bathrooms being painted in bold colors such as yellow, it is instant indoor vitamin D to lift the spirits and brighten your mood,' says interior designer Matthew Williamson.

'Bright, optimistic, and energizing, you can’t go wrong with a yellow bathroom, especially if space is a premium, as it sparks instant joy. I find yellow in all its variants to be such a vibrant and cheering color, it’s more versatile than people think and so unexpected. Yellow elevates the everyday – it’s both inviting and energizing.'

Which of these bathroom color trends is your favorite? Whether you prefer the enduring appeal of neutral bathrooms, which will always be in style; or are looking to add a vibrant dose of color to this functional room, 2025 is all about warm, inviting, and full-of-personality bathrooms.
